FACILITATORS

A HeadsUp! Reading facilitator is a key person at an early childhood site who must be committed to quality service for children and helping staff receive training to ensure their students receive this type of service. In addition to being reliable and excellent teachers, facilitators should possess the following:

  • Confidence in their roles as faciltitators
  • Good listening skills
  • Ability to provide well thought-out feedback to participants' comments and questions
  • Openness to new ideas in training adults
  • Flexibility to handle last minute changes

The facilitator plays a critical role in the facilitator of distance learning - you are what makes distance learning work. The facilitator does not need to be an expert in the field of early childhood, and doesn't need to bring the content into the classroom. The facilitator does need to create a community of learners in their classrooms, set the tone and carry the spirit. Facilitators must also be able to support participants in interactive segments of the show and also encourage participants to call in with ideas, questions and concerns.
