PARTICIPATING
STATES
HeadsUp!
Reading, a groundbreaking college course on early literacy
delivered live via satellite television, is the
cornerstone of early literacy initiatives in eight states:
California, Florida, Illinois, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio,
Pennsylvania, and Tennessee. Each state has
committed to contributing
to the overall production of the course, installing a satellite
network system of 25 sites or more, and assigning a staff
liaison to direct the project and integrate it into the state's
existing systems.
In
addition, participating states agree to:
- Oversee the selection of facilitators and training
sites for the course.
- Sponsor a two-day in-depth training
for all facilitators in the state.
- Form a statewide
team (or advisory committee), drawn from diverse early childhood
groups and organizations, to oversee the start-up and implementation
of the initiative.
- Provide stipends for HeadsUp! Reading
facilitators, which builds the state infrastructure for early
literacy.
- Inform the state's 2 and 4-year colleges
offering undergraduate programs in child development or early
childhood about the opportunity to include HeadsUp! Reading
in their early childhood curriculum.
Each
state tailors the project to the needs of their children.
Below are the key
contacts in each participating state.
