Florida Current Status

|
- The Florida HeadsUp! Reading initiative
was officially launched in January 2002. An aggressive
campaign to train HUR facilitators; market HUR to
School Readiness Coalitions and stakeholders; link
with the Florida Knowledge Network; develop a HUR
Parent Education component; and work with Community
Colleges and Florida Universities> to articulate
credit is ongoing.
- There are approximately 100 certified HUR facilitators
trained throughout Florida as well as 35 HUR “Trainers
of Trainers”. This professional development cadre
represents staff from Head Start, Childcare, School
District, Private and Faith-Based, CCR&R, State
and Private Universities>, Coalitions, Community
Colleges, Technology Centers>, Adult and School Age
Education Programs.
- It is projected that we will have 150 trained
HUR facilitators by the beginning of the 2003 HUR
Session (2-Semester Course beginning January 16,
2003), approximately 2 facilitators per School Readiness
Coalition. It is estimated that these facilitators
will train 1,000 teachers in the 2003-2004 school
year, reaching approximately 20,000 students.
- Our state contract with the National Head Start
Association and RISE Productions is for two “Start
Up” years. NHSA will not require any additional
payment for future broadcast services.
- A national and state-wide data collection system
is currently being developed to track HUR state,
facilitator and participant data and course evaluation
statistics.
