Florida Objectives

- Develop a state HeadsUp! Reading Advisory
Group to provide leadership, direction and additional
resources to sustain the initiative.
- Assign a staff liaison to oversee the HeadsUp!
Reading activities and to work with the HeadsUp!
Reading Advisory Group to lead the project and
integrate it into existing Florida School Readiness
infrastructures and systems.
- Urge all 2 and 4-year colleges (that offer undergraduate
programs in child development or early childhood) to
include HeadsUp! Reading as a part of their
offerings or to develop an articulation agreement with
the University of Cincinnati or NOVASoutheastern University,
which are offering credit for the course.
- Coordinate a series of two-day HeadsUp! Reading facilitator
training and “Trainer or Trainers” courses.
- Make a two-year commitment to contribute to the overall
production of the course and work with Florida’s
satellite network system and existing HeadsUp!
Reading satellite sites to broaden the enrollment.
- Work with School Readiness Coalitions as a partner
in coordinating implementation of the HUR course, articulation
of credit, and providing resources for HeadsUp!
Reading such as providing stipends for HUR facilitators.
